The City of Cambridge, like no other, revolves around the school calendar. For this young family relocating to the academic capital of the world it was no different. Not only did the home need to be ready by the time the college class schedule began in September (no small challenge given our late winter start date), all of the finishes and spaces within the house had to be updated to suit the taste of its new owners.

We did a complete gut of the existing kitchen and rebuilt it with custom cabinets and an exterior “glass” wall. We wholly reworked and rebuilt the master suite. All of the baths in the house were updated as were all mechanical systems including new basement access.

Though we inserted many contemporary and streamlined finishes, we wanted to honor the character of the existing house. All of this was accomplished with a client who was out of state the majority of the time. Thanks to a strong emphasis on collaboration and communication among the architects and us, we delivered across multiple priorities in creating a very cool, new, old house.
