Have you ever been driving around Cambridge and accidentally end up in the bike lane?

Oh, totally not. Ya, me neither…

Moving on from those silly people (not me of course) that mistake the bike lanes for a turning lane and back to the real reason I am reaching out today.

While visiting a client in Cambridge this week, we discussed was adding a bike storage room behind the home. If we do this it will provide so many solutions to named problems: locking shelter for the bikes and other equipment, entryway goes back to normal, mudroom stays mud-free (sneakers are another matter.)

It is bike season and this kind of space is exactly what makes that bike lifestyle easy. Tucked just off the street, let’s create the perfect launch point from which to ride through the neighborhood, get a little exercise, cruise past traffic, even rediscover the city again like a tourist.

And the best part? The perfect blend of mobility, ease, and thoughtful design.

A few options that come to mind pending your space:

Bike Storage Shed

A well-designed shed tucked along the side yard.

Match the home’s color and trim for a seamless look weather-protected + secure.

Wall-Mounted Bike Rack

Installed along the house or fence line.

Vertical or angled mounts to save space.

Clean, minimal, and easy to grab-and-go.

Covered Bike Rack Area

A simple roof structure (similar to your patio concept).

Keeps bikes protected from rain while staying accessible.

Great if multiple bikes are in use regularly.

Integrated Landscape Storage

Hidden behind a hedge or within a structured planting bed.

Blends function with design and keeps visual clutter down while maintaining accessibility.

Deck-Adjacent Storage Zone

Utilize the area near stairs or under deck space.

Add hooks, racks, or a custom enclosure.

This is the kind of upgrade that my team loves to help with, making a difference in your daily routine.

You’re not thinking about bicycle logistics… you’re just heading out the door, hopping on your ride, and enjoying the city…oh, and, of course, taking advantage of those awesome, no-cars-allowed bike lanes!

Let’s get you rollin’
