Luxury atop the City
This top floor condominium is situated in the epitome of luxury residence: “whatever you need” concierge service, sophisticated and the most accomplished of neighbors, spectacular views. But the unit itself had gone untouched since the eighties and it needed a great deal of attention to bring it up to the standard that this empty nest couple would adore.
The challenge – and most exciting part – for us was that the contemporary finish required a high attention to detail. Funky joints couldn’t be covered with a wide piece of crown molding, nor could a glass counter or mosaic backsplash be installed the least bit off-center. Add to this the fact that the work had to be done without bothering the other residents, most of whom preferred to live in peace and quiet, and this project tested our skills on many levels. We learned the rules and the hours and the people who made it all happen. We learned to communicate and support and ask permission. We learned who was home when and made sure we were ambassadors for our clients.
As with all projects, we needed to balance budget with our client’s aesthetic desires, in this case, their wish to create a peak residence in a style that was entirely different from that of their previous family home. Their kids were grown and gone, they traveled frequently, and so when they were home they wanted something simple, clean, cherished and one-of-a-kind. Luxury atop the city they love!
