Time lays down a patina all its own. Metals that once gleamed oxidize and darken. House paint weathered for years takes on a filigree of tiny cracks. In creating a new family home, one young father wanted nothing more than to have us help him make time stand still. Taking our cues from the original 1928 façade of the existing house everything else would follow. The bricks used in the new addition are treated to blend seamlessly with those that have weathered outside for decades. On the inside, replicas of the existing door hardware have their shine dimmed to match the patina of the originals. Ultimately, this modern family home with the help of re-claimed wood, restored one-of-a-kind architectural salvage, and a loving attention to detail will evoke a feeling of time even H. G. Wells would be envious of.
